Our Programs & Services

HAV CIC offers practical, community-based support that helps families and young people access services, improve their English, build skills and feel more connected to life in the UK.
We focus on real-life challenges and work alongside local partners to make everyday life safer, easier and more hopeful for the people we support.

Integration Support – Health, Benefits & Everyday Life

Moving to a new country can be confusing. We help people understand and access key services in the UK, including:

  • registering with a GP and using NHS services
  • reading letters from the GP, hospital or council
  • basic information about Universal Credit and benefits
  • filling in simple forms (online and paper)
  • signposting to trusted organisations for legal or specialist advice

Our goal is to make everyday life less stressful and more manageable.

ESOL & Everyday English

We run small, friendly English groups and conversation sessions. We focus on language for:

  • health and GP appointments
  • school and college meetings
  • transport and daily life
  • simple work-related situations

We also help people understand how to join formal ESOL courses in local colleges.

Skills & Employability

Many people want to move towards work, training or volunteering but face language, confidence or experience barriers. We support them to:

  • create or improve a CV
  • practise job applications and basic interviews
  • understand where to look for opportunities
  • build confidence and soft skills

We do not replace Jobcentre Plus or employment agencies – we prepare people to engage with them more effectively.

Digital Skills for Everyday Life

Today, many services are online. We offer simple digital support to help people:

  • use email safely
  • fill in basic online forms
  • access GP / NHS and government services online
  • use translation tools to support their English

We focus on practical tasks that matter in daily life, not technical theory.

HMO Outreach & HAV Connect Days

Many refugees and new migrants live in shared houses (HMOs) or temporary accommodation and feel isolated or unsure where to get help.

Our outreach team:

  • visits residents in HMOs and local community spaces
  • listens to their stories and needs
  • shares clear information about services and rights
  • connects people with health, welfare, ESOL and community support
  • invites them to our HAV Connect Days

What are HAV Connect Days?

HAV Connect Days are friendly community events where people can meet others, talk to support workers and volunteers, and get information about ESOL, health, benefits and local opportunities.

Languages & Accessibility

We know that English is not the first language for many people we support. Our website includes a translate option, and some staff and volunteers speak other community languages (including Arabic). We always try to use clear, Plain English and can sometimes work with interpreters for important issues.

Who Can Use Our Services?

Our services are mainly for:

  • refugees and asylum seekers
  • migrants and families with low income
  • people living in HMOs or temporary accommodation
  • people who struggle with language, trauma or digital barriers

All support is free. You do not need perfect English to contact us.
